Indigo

We adore the glorious inkiness and richness of the colour Indigo, in all it’s shades and variances, from deep violet through to the brighter almost dark teal of ‘indigo carmine’.

Greg’s absolute favourite fabric of the moment is ‘Abaza Resist’ from Schumacher Textiles. It’s tie-dyed medallion print is sensational, and while it is amazing in all it’s 3 colour ways, the hands-down winner is Indigo – just imagine it as big, generously down filled cushions on a white sofa; or as full, lined curtains around a Colonial four-poster bed…

Other prints we love are ‘Aleppo’ Indigo by John Robshaw Textiles (LHS) and ‘Kabba Kabba’ from Martyn Lawrence Bullard Fabric -

Indigo can be used boldly in an Interior space like seen here at J K Place in Capri – the white painted timber work and architectural detailing ‘pops’ against the depth of the indigo walls…

…or it can be used more subtly as used by Interior Design genius Michael S Smith in this dining room, with only the printed damask on the chairs and the collection of blue and white porcelain…

As the genius, Mr Smith, himself said about the blue and white: ” I like the way you can mix all sorts of blue and white objects and they will always work together. The yellows and sepias in the mural are fairly warm, and the blue and white acts as a device to cool it down visually and add a sense of crispness.”

Never one to shy away from using strong colour, the grandfather of Interior Design Mr Albery Hadley use of shades of Indigo in this Bank of New York  executive office is sublime and timeless.

Off to dream up ways to get more indigo into our work…

Who can make this gorgeous slate table?

Greg has coveted this slate table by Axel Vervoordt for years – then showed Marni, who also fell in love with it. We have searched high and low for somebody in Sydney to make something similar, but have had no success – it seems the chipped and word edges are tricky to achieve. We will persevere however…

and then…to make our quest for chipped-edge slate wonderments all the more challenging – we saw this desk…

So just in case anyone is seriously organised (and feeling super generous!) and thinking of what to get either of us for Christmas – here you have it. With 10 months exactly to get cracking – don’t say we didn’t give you ample time, or that we are hard to buy gifts for!
